At the birth of the Industrial Revolution the inventors of the machinery which would eventually revolutionise the world where faced with a problem - namely who could they turn to to manufacture the new machines. The only commonly available tradesmen at the time where blacksmiths and clockmakers. It is therefore no surprise that machinery from the early part of the industrial revolution bears many similarities with the clocks of the time.
